15.ECSC: the presentation

After three years we met again at the European Chess Solving Championship. The event in Riga brought back to the field many old friends, and we were also happy to welcome a number of new ones – almost a quarter of the participants were debutantes. Danila Pavlov convincingly defended his title (overall and among juniors), finishing well ahead of the second-placed Piotr Murdzia and the third-placed Tomáš Peitl.

While the outcome of the individual competition was mostly certain already after the fifth round, the suspense in the team competition continued up to the last minute. In a spectacular finish, led by the young Ilija Serafimović, Serbia outran Lithuania as well as Slovakia, whose third team place was further accompanied by Marek Kolčák’s win in the senior competition. The women’s competition was won by the fifteen-year old Marina Putinceva. /Ivan Denkovski, 15.ECSC director/

WCCT-11: New judging countries

Dear team leaders,

As a result of the recent WFCC sanctions to BLR/RUS for the WCCT-11, these judging countries had to be replaced.

In most sections, I made use of the appointed reserve countries;
if no reserve country had been nominated, I had to seek for a new judging country.

  • Section A (twomovers): Israel instead of Russia
  • Section B (threemovers): Switzerland instead of Belarus
  • Section C (moremovers): Finland instead of Russia
  • Section F (selfmates): North Macedonia and Slovakia instead of Belarus and Russia
  • Section G (fairies): India instead of Belarus. Slovenia, the initially appointed reserve country, declined on the grounds of competence for the stipulated theme (#3, fairy pieces).

As you are aware, the judgments should reach me by 1st of August 2022.
Warm regards, Harry Fougiaxis, Director of the WCCT-11

WFCC questionnaire final result – Sanctions in reaction to hostilities in Ukraine

In response to the hostilities in Ukraine and the Official Statements of FIDE Executive Council from 27.02.2022 and 16.03.2022, the WFCC conducted a series of Zoom meetings (3rd, 8th and 15th March) for delegates in which a variety of views were put forward leading to the preparation of a detailed questionnaire. The delegates were asked to vote on a series of statements in order to define the stance of the WFCC going forwards.

You may download the final result from the link. With regards to the WCCT-11, the director of the tournament will contact the reserve judging countries replacing the countries of Russia and Belarus and report accordingly.
