Uri Avner, the new President of the Permanent Commission
of the FIDE for Chess Compositions

Born 13 January 1941 in Petach-Tikva, Israel.
First problem published at the age of 12.
Practically dropped composing at age 17, to come back 20 years later.
Became a strong over-the-board player, winning several important chess
tournaments in Israel.
Author and co-author of several books on chess composition.
Editor of "Variantim" for the last 25 years.
Recognized for his works and ideas in many composing fields.
Four times winner of 1st place in sections of the WCCT: selfmates – 3
times, fairies – once.
Organizer of 3 successful PCCC congresses (including the WCSC) in Israel:
Bat-Yam 1983, Tel-Aviv 1996 and Netanya 1999.
Clinical psychologist by profession.
