Who We are
(and Why 64 Squares Aren’t Enough for Us)
We’ve fallen under the spell of 64 squares — and we’re not trying to escape.
Chess composition is a quiet kind of magic. A paradox hiding in plain sight. A surprise waiting to be discovered. And like all good magic, it’s better shared.
Solvers need composers — otherwise, where would the wonders come from?
Composers need solvers — otherwise, who would uncover the hidden gems?
And composers need each other — to challenge, inspire, refine, and occasionally say, “Have you seen this idea before?”
We are a Chess Composers Club.
We gather to explore what’s new on the board, to dissect ideas, to admire beauty, and to compare fresh creations with treasures from the rich past. We search — together — for something more original, more elegant, more daring than what came before.
To join us, you don’t need a title.
You don’t need decades of experience.
You need one thing: a composition of your own — your ticket to the conversation.
Bring your idea. Show it to those you wish to discuss it with. The authorship remains entirely yours. Always.
We proudly represent the World Federation for Chess Composition, and we are looking for the next generation of creators — those ready to surprise us, challenge us, and perhaps even outshine us.
Our senior members are here not as gatekeepers, but as guides. Each carries a different passion and expertise across the endless landscape of chess composition genres and styles. Problems, studies, helpmates, fairy ideas — there is room for every spark.

“At the beginning of my professional life I went to work in Belgium for three months. A very nice guy who was expecting me at the airport asked what my passion was. I swiftly and proudly answered: `I enjoy creating chess problems!` He immediately burst into a huge laughter: `When this world is full of problems, you create new ones?! You might be crazy!`
“One day I asked myself whether it was possible to show the fastest sequence of the four promotions such as 1…d1N 2.h8B e1Q 3.c8R. I was fascinated by the idea so I started work at 10pm and finished by 3am. I experienced an incredible high. Of the five billion people in the world, I was the only one who knew this idea was possible.”
