Invitation to the 18th ISC

The International Solving Contest (ISC) next year will take place on Sunday 23.01.2022. The event is happening simultaneously in all participating countries. There will be three categories: one for experienced solvers. The second category is intended for weaker, inexperienced solvers. This second category is not open for solvers with a rating (or half-rating or non-active-rating) of more than 2000. The third category is intended for youngsters born after 31.12.2008

The name of the locally appointed controller must reach the central controllers by email not later than 31.12.2021:  axel.steinbrink@gmx.de  / palmans.luc@skynet.be

9th FIDE World Cup in Composing 2021 – Preliminary results – B

FIDE-logoThe preliminary results in section B – Threemovers (PDF) of the 9th FIDE World Cup in Composing 2021 are published and can be found above the Announcement, in RESULTS section. This time preliminary results are published without names. Names will appear in the final results. Claims of defects and anticipations can be sent to the Director during one month after the publication of the preliminary results (until 30.08.2021).

Solvers’ ratings July 1st 2021

Solvers’ ratings as of July 1st 2021 produced by the Solving Tournament Manager are published! 6 tournaments of the 2nd quarter 2021 are included: Junior Championship of Russia 2021, 29th Championship of Russia 2021, Central Federal District Cup for solving chess compositions 2021, Russian solving cup 2021, Open chess solving tournament of Tula, 42nd Lithuanian Championship 2021.
The top ten remain the same solvers as in the previous quarter with Danila Pavlov (RUS) rising ahead of John Nunn (GBR) from 5th to 4th place as the only change of places.
The largest three gains have been achieved by Russian junior solvers Nikita Ushakov (RUS / +137.64), Egor Sokolov (RUS / +60.77), Ural Hasanov (RUS / +32.19), Ivan Novikov (RUS / +25.87), IM Danila Moiseev (RUS / +25.36) and Nikolay Zhugin (RUS / +24.71).

World Solving Cup 2021/2022

The next cycle of the World Solving Cup will start right after the Rhodes congress with Roland Ott as Director and Marek Kolčák and Axel Steinbrink as Assistant Directors. Participating countries can register for the WSC 2021/2022 by sending an email to roland.ott@gmx.ch by specifying Country, expected Date (as exactly as possible), Place and Type of the tournament.

Although the final deadline for registrations will be only 1 month after the WCCC interested countries are encouraged to register as of now to help avoiding more than one WSC tournament at the same weekend.

As before tournaments counting for the WSC have to be announced with an invitation to be sent to the WSC Director at least two months before the tournament starts.

FIDE ALBUM 2016-2018 – Results in section G

fide-album-cover-topThe results of the FIDE Album 2016-18 section G are ready!

An impressive number of 1520 entries (excluding duplicates) were received and they were split in two groups: G1 for fairies without conditions and G2 for problems with at least one fairy condition. This classification was a success as 747 entries were allocated to G1 and 773 to G2. In each group there were three judges with each team of judges working independently. 1331 entries scored at least 4,5 points (87,5% of the total entries, a very good ratio for such a popular genre). 357 problems out of them (63 more compared to the previous album) scored at least 8 points, which represents a ratio of 26,8% selected problems; 125 entries (one third of the selected problems) had already qualified from the WCCI process.

Invitation to Rhodos: 63rd WCCC & 44th WCSC

The Greek Chess Problem Society have the honour to invite all delegates of the World Federation for Chess Composition (WFCC), national teams and individual solvers, chess composers and all those interested in problem chess, to attend the 63rd World Congress of Chess Composition (WCCC) and 44th World Chess Solving Championship (WCSC).
The congress will be held from Saturday, October 16th (arrival)to Saturday, October 23rd, 2021 (departure) at the “Rodos Palace Hotel” ***** in the island of Rhodes, with the WCSC on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 19th and 20th.

Next meeting
There was some questioning about how we should carry on with these meetings.
Mr Kovačević suggested we shouldn’t stop with online work until the Congress.
He also thought that there should be an official agenda drawn up and circulated before the meeting.
It was agreed the next meeting would be on Wednesday 2.6.21 18:00 CEST

Summing up at the end of the meeting the President emphasised the importance for the Federation of the Congress going ahead this year.

Mr Kovačević welcomed the presence online of attendees from far afield such as Singapore and
India as well as others who wouldn’t normally attend live meetings.
